This is as complete an accounting of
the service of the 89th Squadron as I am able to compile.
In January of 1946, the 3rd
Bombardment Group was based at Atsugi Air Base in Japan. The personnel & aircraft of the 89th were steadily
being transferred to the 38th Bombardment Group, which intially was at Ashiya Air Base, until the squadron was detached from the 3rd and attached to the
38th at Itazuke Air Base on April 1,
1946. Subsequently the 38th moved to Itami Air Base in
September of 1946 where they remained until inactivated on April 1,
1949.
The squadron was redesignated the 89th
Tactical Missile Squadron and activated on September 10, 1962 and
based at Hahn Air Base, West Germany until it was inactivated on
September 25, 1966.The 89th
Squadron was reactivated in April 1985 and attached to the 89th
Bombardment Wing until its inactivation in August 1990.
